WHY IT’S IMPORTANT TO READ BOOKS ABOUT WILDLIFE AND NATURE?
Hola amigos!
Today is World Wildlife Day!
“Late in December of 2013, the UN established 3 March as an official observance called “World Wildlife Day”. The date was chosen because on that same day the UN General Assembly passed CITES, a resolution that sought to stop illegal poaching and trafficking in endangered species of the world, both plant and animal species being included.
World Wildlife Day is meant to raise public awareness and appreciation of the “intrinsic” and “derivative” value of our world’s wildlife. The wonder and beauty of plants and animals now in danger of extinction is highlighted, as well as their role in cultures, economies, education, and science.
Efforts are also made to influence governments to act to protect at-risk species and to crack down on illegal trafficking or in the destruction of the habitats they need to survive.” [source]
WHY IT’S IMPORTANT TO READ BOOKS ABOUT WILDLIFE AND NATURE?
Our natural world provides us with the food, air and water we all need to live. But, unfortunately, since it is ever present and free, we often take it for granted and overexploit it, endangering many species including our own human race. Books about wildlife and nature help us understand how we are all interconnected, how our actions impact our wonderful but fragile home, how to take better care of it and the social and economic consequences of not doing it.
So, today I wanted to share with you the books I’d like to read and movies I’d like to watch on this topic! I’m especially looking forward to the new ARC I received, Rooted: Life at the Crossroads of Science, Nature, and Spirit by Lyanda Lynn Haupt!
These are my favorite adaptations. Enjoy the trailers!
And, what about you? Are nature and wildlife topics you enjoy reading about? What are your favorite nature and wildlife books and book adaptations?
