Sophia was made for him. Her perfect husband. She can feel it in her bones. He is perfect. Their home together in Arcadia Gardens is perfect. Everything is perfect. It’s just that he’s away so much. So often. He works so hard. She misses him. And he misses her. He says he does, so it must be true. He is the perfect husband and everything is perfect. But sometimes Sophia wonders about things. Strange things. Dark things. The look on her husband’s face when he comes back from a long business trip. The questions he will not answer. The locked basement she is never allowed to enter. And whenever she asks the neighbors, they can’t quite meet her gaze…
Well, this was biblically and primordially 5 stars AWESOME.

2022 has been quite a “surreal” reading year, with “Comfort me with Apples” being the perfect “Eve” for a “Piranesi” Adam!
And the perfect way to start celebrating International Women’s Day and my favorite reading month, U.S. Women’s History Month, because there isn’t a womanlier tale than this one! THAT IS A SACRED BIBLICAL TRUTH!
If you like retellings, biblical tales, Judeo-Christian mythology, mind-bending, literary fiction, character-centered, psychological thriller/horror/dystopian stories like “Piranesi“, you’d probably love this book.
Because it is so hard it is to review without spoiling it, and because these two books are just so equally surreal and thought provoking and “made for each other“… I’m just going to say what I said for “Piranesi“…
No matter what kind of books you read, what genre, what topics, you GOTTA read this book!
Because, chances are, you’ve never read a book quite like “Comfort me with Apples”! So, you should treat yourself with this incredibly unique experience.
The story is about this woman, Sophia, who lives in this absolutely surreal utopian gated community called “Arcadia Garden” which is the only place she knows. She doesn’t know much actually. She only knows that’s the perfect place for her, and that she’s the perfect wife for her perfect husband, because “she was made for him“.
All this “perfection” is enough to give anyone the creeps, BUT of course there is so much more.
Any story about anyone “made” for another is a horror story, as Sophia and the readers soon learn. When Sophia learns the TRUE nature of her reality… Let’s use just this word: BRUTAL.
I won’t spoil it for you! You HAVE to read this book and find out!
